Shipping Labels at Pickup: What to Prepare Without a Home Printer

Not having a printer does not necessarily mean you need to visit a shipping store. Some shipping workflows support label printing at pickup, while some retailers and carriers use QR-code returns or physical counters. The important step is to confirm the exact service you have selected before a driver arrives.

Know whether you already have a label

If the retailer or marketplace supplied a prepaid return label, check what carrier must handle the return and how the label is meant to be presented. A printable PDF label, a mobile QR code and a new paid shipping label are different things; one cannot always substitute for another.

Prepare the package before pickup

Check prohibited or restricted items, choose suitable packaging and record the parcel's actual weight and dimensions. If a driver will provide materials or assist with packaging, confirm that service in advance and be ready to provide a clear item description.

Check label printing availability in your area

Where the selected Kaebox service supports a driver bringing packaging or printing supplies, follow the latest booking instructions. Other locations or carrier services may require you to print a label yourself, use a designated kiosk or visit an authorized drop-off counter.

Ask what counts as carrier acceptance

Receiving a printed label or a driver pickup confirmation does not always equal a carrier acceptance scan. Save the pickup details and monitor the carrier tracking history until the package moves through the shipping network.

Common ways to prevent label mistakes

Remove older labels, use a flat visible surface, keep barcodes readable and avoid folding them around corners. Confirm the name, postal code and label address before the parcel leaves your possession.

Before a driver arrives to print the label

Prepare the sender and recipient addresses, including apartment or suite information. Confirm the packed item's approximate weight and external dimensions, and remove outdated labels from reused packaging. If your pickup includes packaging assistance, check the requested supplies and whether the item is eligible for the selected carrier.

What to confirm at handoff

Check that the label reflects the correct destination and carrier service before it is attached. Ask how and when acceptance or pickup will be recorded, and keep any confirmation number. Printing a label does not itself prove a carrier has accepted the package. Tracking scans may appear later, depending on the pickup workflow and carrier.

If the label cannot be printed

Do not assume the pickup is complete. Check whether the driver can retry, whether another approved label method is available, or whether the parcel should be taken to an authorized drop-off point. Never hand over a parcel without knowing the intended shipping service and the process for obtaining confirmation.
